Wolfgang Kiessling is Professor of Paleobiology at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen in Germany. Wolfgang assessesPhanerozoic-scale patterns of the fossil record,for which he developsand mines comprehensive databases such as the Paleobiology Database and PaleoReefs. Reefs through time, mass extinctions, and the consequences of earth-system change on evolutionarypatterns are just a few topics ofhis broad research agenda.Recently, hebecame elected lead-author for the forthcoming Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In this role, he seeks to promote paleobiological contributions to impacts of climate change. Wolfgang has considerable experience in editing. Besides editing the voluminous “Phanerozoic Reef Patterns” (SEPM Special Publications) and special issues for journals, he was an editor of Biogeosciencesfrom 2004 to 2015and associate editor for Palaios2010-2019 and Paleobiology2009-2015. He has been editor-in-chief for Facies since 2015and editor of Paleobiologysince 2016.Wolfgang would be thrilled to help develop Paleobiologyto become ahub for integrating paleobiological approaches into current questions of global change.
